Happy New Year from all the staff and pupils in Senior 2!
This term our main topic is 'Endangered Species'. We will be doing lots of geography, science and art linked to this topic, and maybe even making some animal masks. Hopefully, we will be able to visit the Sea Life Centre in Scarborough too. We will also be continuing to work hard on our NCFE accreditation for Maths and English.
Our PE lessons continue with Martin on a Monday, and to develop our Learning for Life skills we will be planning, shopping for, and cooking our own lunch on a Wednesday.
Fridays are still our Work Experience days, so the gardening and takeaway groups will continue as well as some pupils working as helpers with younger classes.
We are all looking forward to a busy and fun term ahead. As always if you have any questions, please contact us on the Class Dojo -

Hello from Senior 2! We have lots of new pupils and staff this year, and are very much looking forward to getting to know you all as you settle into your new class.
This term our topic is ‘India’. As well as our regular Maths, English and PE lessons we will also be learning all about this wonderful country and its culture. We will be enjoying a weekly music lesson with a specialist music teacher, and continue our important work in PSE on keeping ourselves safe and healthy,
Our work-related learning continues, with both Gardening and Takeaway groups working hard every Friday. And we also have four Forest School days to look forward to this half term. Make sure to keep an eye on the Class Dojo for weekly updates and photos!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact either of us.

Pupils in Senior 2 have made a great start to the term already. We are going to make the most of the summer weather and spend a lot more time outdoors this term. Our main topic is 'Minibeasts', so in addition to lots of science-based research and learning in class, we will be doing lots of practical investigations, in the school grounds and beyond. We'll be incorporating lots of Maths and English into this work too, so our functional skills will continue to develop.
We will also be finishing off our final ASDAN units, and carrying on with weekly P.E. sessions, as well as some 'Virtual P.E' and Boccia sessions. Our work-related learning on a Friday continues, with lots to keep the gardening team busy, including planting summer flowers, and fruits and vegetables we hope to enjoy later in the summer. Our takeaway shop has reopened too, so we will be very busy making and selling lots of Friday treats for staff and pupils across the school.
Some very exciting news is that we are going to be doing more Forest School days, up at Elmswell Farm. Research has shown that Forest Schools can help improve confidence, social skills, communication, motivation, physical skills AND knowledge and understanding, so we are really looking forward to this fantastic opportunity. And we will no doubt have lots of fun too!
What a great term we have ahead of us. As always, if yo have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch.

Spring Term 2021
Happy New Year to all our Senior 2 families.
Although we start the term with few pupils in school, and most learning from home, we have lots of interesting and fun learning planned for you, wherever you may be! Our main topic this term is 'The Emergency Services'. Within this topic we will be using our Maths, English and ICT skills to research different Emergency Services and find out exactly what they all do. Later in the term, if restrictions are lifted, we may even get to visit some of the different local services - or try to do this virtually!
We will also continue with discrete Basic Skills lessons, ASDAN, and our Learning for Life curriculum. As our Friday Takeaway is temporarily closed, Food Technology this term has an 'Around the World' theme, looking for (and tasting!) new recipes to bring to our customers when we can re-open. Work-Related Learning this term is focusing on Gardening, both indoor and outdoor, including growing cress and pak choi in the classroom or at home.
There's lots going on in P.E. lessons too, as we are learning a new sport and skills in Badminton, and entering online Boccia and Football competitions. We will also continue to work on important issues in PSE, such as e-safety, stranger danger and relationships.
Of course our main priority this term is to keep ourselves and everyone else safe, so do take good care and hopefully it won't be too long before we are all back in school together.

All the pupils in Senior 2 have settled back into school life really well, and are enjoying getting to know their new classmates and staff. We are all looking forward to a busy, fun term full of learning ahead.
Our main topic is 'European Cultures', and we have chosen France as the country we would like to find more out about. We will be learning about the culture, towns and countryside, and language in France, as well as French art, music and of course food!
We are also going to focus this term on our Personal Safety, looking at areas such as internet safety, stranger danger, relationships education, and bullying.
We will continue to develop our functional skills in Maths, English and ICT across the curriculum, and work hard on our ASDAN accreditation folders. We will also improve our Learning for Life skills with food technology, travel training and work experience. Our Friday gardeners will be very busy catching up with lots of outside jobs, and our takeaway will reopen with new safety measures in place, offering a pre-order and delivery service for now. Most items are still only 50p, so do let us know if you would like any Friday treats bringing home!
On top of all that, we all love our weekly P.E. sessions with Martin, and hope to have at least one Forest School day out in the woods near Little Driffield. And then we'll be thinking about Christmas ....!
Wow, what a wonderful term ahead for Senior 2. We are all so happy to have you back in school, and can't wait to enjoy the Autumn Term with you.
