Senior 1 Termly Focus - Spring 2020
Posted: Jan 21, 2020 by: charlottedowson on: Senior 1 Termly Focus
This is another exciting term for Senior 1. The Autumn term ran smoothly and we were delighted with the hard work of the all the pupils. We have had a slight change of staffing with the experienced Celia joining us four days each week whilst Jade now works in many different classes on a temporary basis.
The Spring term main topic is ‘Tell me a Story’. This will involve listening to and learning stories from around the world and so many geographical links can be made. We will be aiming to improve pencil control and creativity by creating art work and written work linked to the topic. In English lessons, we are still aiming to improve reading fluency and spelling accuracy through focused phonics lessons and continued regular reading. Maths will be mainly focusing on money and time. This will still involve lots of addition and subtraction and some multiplication and division when the children are ready for it. We will also be doing practical work on time as many children in the class need practice in this area. In science we will learn how the human body grows and changes into adulthood whilst continuing to learn about the vital roles of the internal organs.
We continue to work on ‘life skills’ and so sessions involving shopping and baking, visits to the community coffee shop and regular walks into town will continue. P.E. lessons continue to be on Tuesday afternoons and there will be trips out to sporting events.
The staff of Senior 1 take pride in creating a safe, nurturing and engaging environment for the children to work in. If you have any questions or worries now or at any point in the school year, please do not hesitate to contact me.
